Membership at St. John’s

Membership at St. John’s of Highland takes place through baptism, affirmation of baptism, or transfer of membership. If someone has never been baptized, baptism is the way in which one becomes a part of the Body of Christ, which is known as the church. If someone has already been baptized, we affirm their baptism on the day they join the church. If someone has been a member of another Lutheran church, they can request a transfer of membership to St. John’s of Highland.

When a person or family of any faith informs us that they would like to join the church through affirmation of baptism or transfer of membership, we invite them to our next new member class. These take place once or twice a year. The affirmation of baptism liturgy is celebrated at any of our weekend worship services, followed by a luncheon after our late Sunday service. During the lunch, folks get to know other new members of the congregation, tour the facilities, learn about our various ministries and get an overview on Lutheranism.

We are so thankful for the many ways our new members are a blessing to our community of faith! To learn more about membership, please contact the church office or one of the pastors.
