Miracle Sunday

Greetings to our St. John’s Church Family,

One of the most familiar miracle stories of Jesus is the feeding of the 5000. The reason for this is that this story is a memorable one. From just five loaves of bread and two fish, Jesus is able to feed over 5000 people, and leftovers were collected when all had eaten their fill. In recent years however, one of the interpretations of this story is that the miracle might have happened in another way. As the generosity of the young boy is seen by the crowd that had gathered, they were in turn inspired to share out of what they had so that all were fed that day. The miracle then becomes one that results from the generosity of those who were blessed to break bread with Jesus.

Here at St. John’s we are hoping to have a miracle of our own as a result of the generosity of our members. About a year ago, a seed was planted to explore the possibility of having a Miracle Sunday at St. John’s. The time has arrived for this exciting event on Sunday, March 3, 2019. It will take place following our regular worship service schedule around noon in Highland Hall. On that day a delicious meal will be served in Highland Hall, an opportunity to offer a gift to reduce the building debt will take place, and a celebration of generosity will conclude the festivities.

Please prayerfully consider in the coming weeks what you might be able to do, if anything, to financially participate in Miracle Sunday. No matter what the gift, every dollar brings us closer to ending this debt and opening new possibilities for St. John’s and its ministry. Thank you to all who have already contributed towards this goal, and thank you to all who are open to the possibility of giving in the days to come. Through this congregational giving opportunity, we could save between $285,000 to $400,000 in interest savings over the next 14 years, as well as create more financial stability and resources for future ministry.

If you are able to attend, an RSVP would be greatly appreciated. Please contact the church office at sjlutheran@verizon.net or 412-364-1606 to let them know of your intended attendance that day or if you have any questions. If you are unable to attend and want to make a contribution, you are more than welcome to still participate by mail or by dropping something off at our church office. While we are using March 3rd as a day of celebration, special gifts towards the debt are welcome before or after that date, and will be added to the total.

Thank you for your continued support and your partnership in ministry! You are a blessing, and we are excited to take time with you to celebrate the miracles along the way!
