Today’s Gospel lesson is a great reminder to us that while we may not have all the answers to life’s questions and questions of faith, we have the answers that we truly need. We know that Jesus is God’s Son, and that God is well pleased with him. We know that in baptism we are made a part of the Body of Christ and that we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit. And then, as our baptismal service states, “Living with Christ and in the communion of saints, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God.””

The knowledge of being a child of God in baptism gives us not only a sense of belonging, but also a sense of trust, knowing that while we may not fully know ourselves, God knows us and calls us his own, and that is all we really need.
