In our text from Isaiah 11 we hear that “a little child shall lead them,” and it is always good to have a friendly reminder that we are called to do our part to bring the peaceable kingdom into our midst. As we do acts of love for those in our lives, those in our neighborhood, and those in our world to be instruments of God’s peace, that is what will make this Christmas perfect even in the midst of our imperfect world. This experience can give us the perspective that a little child is leading us in love, and that the Spirit of the Lord is guiding us along the way until that day when together we might be in the midst of the wolf living with the lamb, the leopard lying down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling in community, the cow and the bear grazing side by side with their young lying down together, and the lion eating straw like an ox, with Christ at the center of it all.
