Here at the beginning of the Gospel, Mark is trying to pave the way for the Messiah’s entrance into the story of faith. He shows that “the beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God,” is not a story that stands on its own, but has been a chapter that folks have been waiting for it to be written for centuries, to tie together the prophecies from of old and the family of faith. As followers of Christ Jesus, we are called to faithfully continue on in the story, remembering the narrative of old, celebrating that we are a part of the present narrative, and looking forward with eager anticipation for the narrative of the future.
