Last week we heard the story of the feeding of the 5000, and this week we follow that story up with Jesus walking on the water and Peter trying to come to him, and needing a saving hand as he starts to sink. As we consider the question of how we can find Christ extending his saving hand to us in the lows of our lives, we need to remember that Christ continues to be present with us through the likes of us. As the Body of Christ, we are Christ’s saving hand in the world. And the beauty of how God has set this up for us is twofold. For not only can our hands can make a difference for those around us, such as happened with the feeding of the 5000, but in the Body of Christ there are also other hands who can pick us up when we start to sink, like Peter had with Jesus himself.
