The Way Grace Is…

For this sermon, Pastor Smail uses a story entitled “The Lonely Lady of Blairstown Park.” It was originally written by Dr. Richard Jenson, a past professor at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago and was adapted by Pastor Ed Markquart and now has been adapted by Pastor Smail for this sermon.

Today Jesus teaches us about grace in the story of the Prodigal Son. He reminds us that God has always been and will always be there for us with open arms, ready to embrace us in love. We know that because of Christ grace has been there for us in the past, grace is here for us today, and grace will be there for us tomorrow. Yet as we gratefully ponder that wonder of God’s love, let us also ponder how we might be God’s grace for others in our broken world.
