In our text for today Jesus tells the people who are marveling at the temple that “the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.” While physical things such as wars, disease, famine, and persecution have turned things upside down in the last 2000 years, more importantly Jesus’ way of being has turned things upside down. In Jesus’ time, he taught them that while the temple was a treasure, it was something that was temporary and would not last. Instead he taught them of what would last, and that was God’s presence with them in all things, helping them to endure and proclaim their faith even in the mist of turmoil.
